About Me:
My creative passion began at a young age, with very early memories of making mud sculptures on Wells beach in North Norfolk. Driven by the tactility of the wet sand and the potential of boundless creations, I experimented with clay throughout my school years. My potting career began 24 years ago when I worked as an apprentice to local potter Martin Dickens, of Gorleston, for four years. Following this I attended and graduated from Anglia Polytechnic University (based at Lowestoft College) with an HND in Ceramic Design in 1996. During my college vacations I worked for Earth Pottery, Lowestoft. I then became resident potter at The Village Experience', Fleggburgh, Norfolk, where for 7 years; I produced and sold my own range of hand thrown stoneware. In 2005 I started work in Adult Education as ceramics technician, then going on to teach pottery classes. Alongside this I have continued to develop my own work, building my raku kiln in the summer of 2009. My current work explores the process and pleasure of making and firing individual raku vessels at my small workshop in Oby. Each piece explores the juxtaposition of contrasting surfaces, focusing on resisted areas within my designs which portray the qualities of the clay's surface .
